SPIRITS
Welcome to my gallery of "LEAF SPIRITS"! Each of these delightful creations were designed and created using 100% silk tussah fabric for both the leaf and the face! (TUSSAH silk comes from wild moths, whose main diet is oak leaves). I created the leaf patterns from real leaves which I collected, pressed, and then traced onto heavy weight paper to make a reusable pattern.
The leaves are lightly stuffed with high quality, 100% fiberfill by Airtex, top-stitched into a design, and then hand-painted using silk fabric dyes. Some of the leaves also have inner wire armatures. The face fabric was also hand-dyed with silk dyes, to correspond to the leaf's color.
As with all my one-of-a-kind, creations, each face is individually hand-drawn, lightly needle sculpted, and hand-painted. The face is hand-sewn to the leaf, and accented with imported yarns for the hair, Swarovski crystals, and other glass beads. Some of the leaf spirits, i.e. the "oak leaf" is wearing a real acorn cap. There is a loop on the back of each leaf for displaying on the wall.
They make unique, colorful additions to any room in your home or office.

This delightful Maple Leaf Spirit measures 7" wide at the two top tips and approx. 6" long to base of leaf. The stem extends another 3". The entire creation is 100% silk, which I hand-dyed. Her hairdo is a wonderful textured Italian eyelash yarn with fluffy wisps, long eyelash, and paper ribbon eyelash. She has Swarovski crystal and copper metal seed bead accents in her hair and at the base of the stem. There is is ribbon loop on the back to hang her on the wall. WHAT A LOVELY ACCENT!! This leaf came from our property up north. It is from a "black oak" tree. It measures approx. 7" long from the tip of the leaf to its base, and the stem extends about another 2.5". She is very lovely with her tan face, and beautiful hairdo! The yarn is an Italian yarn in shades of rust, olive green, dark blue, with hints of dark plum, with a metallic thread running through it. Very soft and wispy! Her accents are a real acorn cap, and Swarovski crystals.

This is a Morning Glory leaf, but I decided to paint her a lovely metallic shade of gold! She is quite stunning with her beautiful hairdo in shades of deep gold, metallic lighter gold and cream shades. The size of the leaf is 4.5" long from tip to base of leaf. The stem extends another 2". She is wearing accents of Swarovski crystals in her hair and at the base of leaf.

This HUGE maple leaf, from which I designed my template, was found on a street in Lake Geneva, WI. (the leaf measured approx. 9" long from tip to bottom of where the stem begins, and almost 12" wide when measuring from the two sides. All the other leaves on the tree where of a normal size. What a find!!

This sweet little "leaf spirit" is from an ASPEN leaf I picked up in South Dakota and enlarged to 144% before I created the template. The leaf now measures 4" long from the tip to the base, and the stem extends approx. another 2.25", and 5" wide. She has a charming golden face, and her hairdo is a fun textured Italian yarn with lots of little loops and wisps. The colors are gold yellow, green, and hints of mauve. Her accents are Swarovski crystals in her hair and at the base of the leaf.
The twinkling, golden Aspen leaves, in the Black Hills of SD, were my inspiration for this little beauty!

This is the tiniest of my "leaf spirit" collection! It is a Popular Leaf! She is very exquisite with her tiny little face and wispy hairdo! She would fit just about anywhere! The leaf is the actual size, and measures approx. 3" x 3" from tip to base of leaf. The tiny stem extends about 1.5". She is wearing Swarovski crystals and a tiny dragonfly as her accents.

I traced a leaf from one of my house plants, while it was still on the plant, to make this template. It measures approx. 10 long from the tip to base of leaf, and the curly stems extends about another 3.35". The colors a a beautiful shade of dark green with a bluish cast to it. The "spirit's" face is a bluish color, and her fluffy hairdo was designed from an Italian yarn, which is very soft and wispy. It is in shades of green which blend beautifully with the leaf, and also has hints of dark plum in it. Her hair accent is a silver coated butterfly, Swarovski crystals and glass tube beads. At the base of the leaf, there is an accent of Swarovski crystals, glass tube beads and a silver flower bead.

This leaf is a pumpkin leaf! I discovered pumpkin vines coming up in the lower part of our yard where we had thrown out a Halloween pumpkin the year before. Since I'm always looking for different shaped leaves with which to create my "leaf spirits", this one caught my eye!
At its widest point, the leaf measures 6.5", and 4.5" from the tip to its base. The curly stem extends about another 2.5". The overall colors of this "leaf spirit" is a light olive green with hints of gold in the leaf. Her face is a lighter gold/green. Her hairdo is a wispy Italian eyelash yarn in shades of olive green and hints of deep burgandy. As accents, she has Swarovski crystals in her hair and at the base of the leaf, along with a little good luck lady bug on the stem.

This morning glory leaf measures 5" long x 4.5" wide. The stem extends about another 2.5". She is really SWEET! Her multi-colored hairdo was designed from an Italian yarn, and the shades are pale green, aqua, light pink or magenta and hints of yellow. She has Swarovski crystal accents in her hair, and at the base of the leaf, along with a silver coated, metal butterfly!
